How does this work?

When you join the group you will be assigned an Observer who will accompany you on drives in your own car and advise you on all aspects of advanced driving. This will guide you towards passing the Institute of Advanced Motorists Driving Test.

What's special about Advanced Driving?

Advanced driving is a style that is more systematic. We use a consistent approach to any hazard, a bit like "Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre" from your L-plate days but a bit more sophisticated. There's more info on the System page.

Other than that, it is a collection of small but important changes; being that bit more aware, planning your approaches, and adapting to the traffic and road conditions.

How long does it take?

It varies from driver to driver, but typically six to ten fortnightly runs is usually enough. A big factor is how much 'practice' mileage you cover between observed runs.
